TrustAtlantic Bank's Anthony to Lead United Way of the Greater Triangle's BoardResearch Triangle Park—March 21, 2011—United Way of the Greater Triangle recently appointed John N. Anthony, Chief Administrator Officer for TrustAtlantic Bank, as Board Chairman and Walter Davenport, retired partner of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, L.L.P., as First Vice Chair to the 2011 Board of Directors.
The 2011 Board Chairman position is a continuation of Anthony's role with United Way. He previously served as the chair of the Triangle Resource Investment Cabinet from 2006 until 2010. He has been involved with the United Way allocations process for nine years.
"I am very excited to take on the challenge of leading the United Way of the Greater Triangle's Board of Directors. This organization plays a significant role in positively impacting the Triangle. Now more than ever our health and human services are needed as we serve one of every four residents in the Triangle area. It is my sincere honor to lead a board who will ensure all who need help find it," said Anthony.
Anthony has been a member of the Board of Directors for United Way for eight years. He served as first vice chair last year and second vice chair in 2009. He is very active in nonprofit and civic activities and has volunteered his time with many Triangle area nonprofit organizations over the last 20 years.
In announcing Anthony's chairmanship, United Way of the Greater Triangle's president and CEO Craig Chancellor said, "John is one of the most respected businessmen in the Triangle area. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the board as well as years of experience in partnering with United Way in various capacities. His previous work in our investment and allocations processes provides John with a deep understanding of United Way's breadth and impact in our community."
Anthony is a 1987 graduate of East Carolina University and in 2001 completed the Bank Administration Institute - Graduate School of Retail Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. He has over 20 years of banking experience and plays a key role in building sales and service culture throughout the bank. He and his wife, Camino, live in Raleigh with their two daughters.
Walter Davenport, a Certified Public Accountant with over thirty-five years experience will serve as the First Vice Chair of United Way of the Greater Triangle Board of Directors. Davenport has shown a strong dedication to serving his community as an active member of United Way's Board of Directors for over 20 years. Most recently, Davenport was chair of United Way of the Greater Triangle's audit committee.
During his tenure as a senior United Way volunteer, Davenport has served on United Way's certification committee, a group responsible for ensuring member agencies demonstrate the capacity to deliver health and human services through annual review of their financial, legal, governance and human resource. Anthony and Davenport will lead the United Way of the Greater Triangle's Board of Directors in supporting its work of providing quality of life through four basic building blocks of education, income, health and safety.
