Ron Francis, National Hockey League Player (Retired)
Former Carolina Hurricanes captain and 23-year National Hockey League star Ron Francis recently retired after a distinguished career. A two-time Stanley Cup winner, Mr. Francis captained the Hurricanes to the 2002 Stanley Cup Final. A native of Ontario, he began his 23 seasons in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers; he also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs. Mr. Francis has played in four NHL All-Star games and earned numerous awards. He retired from the NHL prior to the start of the 2005-06 season, and now serves as the Hurricanes' Director of Player Development.
Mr. Francis ranks fourth in league history in points and second in assists. His Whalers number #10 was raised at the Hartford Civic Center on January 6, 2006 and his Hurricanes #10 jersey was retired by the Carolina organization on January 28, 2006.
