E. Stephen Stroud, Chairman
One of the most highly regarded commercial real estate professionals in North Carolina, Steve Stroud began his real estate career in 1965. While assembling and developing major industrial and office tracts in Wake County, Mr. Stroud founded NAI Carolantic Realty, the “most called and most quoted" brokerage firm in the commercial real estate marketplace, over thirty years ago.
In 1987, Mr. Stroud became President of the North Carolina Railroad Company. At that time the major spine railroad was divided into two ownerships: the North Carolina Railroad and the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad. During Stroud’s tenure as President, a merger between the two ownerships was finally accomplished.
In 1985, Mr. Stroud was asked to be Chairman of the Coliseum Committee to study the feasibility of a major events facility in Raleigh. In 1995, Mr. Stroud was elected as Chairman of the Centennial Authority, established by the NC Legislature, with the mandate to design and build what was to be known as the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena. Now completed, the newly named RBC Center is home to the NC State basketball program and the NHL hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes.
Mr. Stroud has been the recipient of numerous awards for both professional achievements and service to the community, including the 2001 A.E. Finley Award given for Distinguished Community Service and the 2000 Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given to a citizen of the State.
Currently, Mr. Stroud serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry and is Chairman of the Centennial Authority. In the past, he has served on the Board of Directors of Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for North Carolina Amateur Sports. He was Vice Chairman of North Carolina Economic Development Board and has served as a member of the North Carolina Transportation Task Force, as well as the Raleigh Planning Commission.
