James A. Beck

Mr. Beck serves as the President & Chief Executive Officer of the Company and TrustAtlantic Bank. He is a seasoned executive with over 27 years of banking experience, including 20 years in the Triangle area. Immediately prior to his role with TrustAtlantic, Mr. Beck was principal of J. Beck & Company, a financial services and advisory firm after having led Capital Bank Corporation, headquartered in Raleigh North Carolina, as the President & Chief Executive Officer from its inception in 1997 until August 2003.

During his tenure with Capital Bank Corporation, the Company grew to approximately $900 million in total assets, twenty-one banking locations with over 250 employees through organic growth and acquisitions. In addition to starting Capital Bank, Mr. Beck served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer for SouthTrust Bank of North Carolina, N.A. In that role, he led the first successful entry of a major out-of-state bank holding company into North Carolina, and grew that bank to over $200 million in total assets in five and one-half years.

Mr. Beck is a 1974 graduate of North Carolina State University. Throughout his career he has been active in leadership roles in various civic affairs and local charities. He also served on the Board of Directors of The Mangum Group, a privately held highway construction and site development contracting company chairing the Compensation Committee and serving on the Audit Committee
